Tara Gillion, ASP, CRCP-P, chief operations officer for Serbin Medical Billing, will be presenting at the Ambulatory Surgery Center Association's (ASCA) Best Practices in ASC Revenue Cycle Management virtual course.
The event takes place August 21-22 and will be available on-demand following the course. Gillon's session on “Collection Strategies for Payers and Patients” is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 22, from 2:30 pm–3:30 pm ET.
The session is described as follows: "Explore strategies your ASC can employ to ensure payer and patient collection success. On the payer side, we will discuss the importance of providing access to payer contracts for scheduling, insurance verification and financial counseling, billing, payment posting, and the role of the collections department. Gain an understanding of payer-specific contractual language outlining requirements for clean claims, including claim forms, multiple procedures and modifiers. Review timely filing guidelines and consider special circumstances or exclusions such as implants.
“Successful patient collection strategies start with obtaining accurate and complete insurance verification and relaying this information to the patient. Get clarification on how to generate proper patient estimates and implement upfront collection of the patient’s financial responsibility. Identify best practices for post-procedure collections, examine statement language and frequency, and discuss various modes communication that allow for consistent contact between staff and patients."
Gillon has more than 20 years of experience in healthcare and 10 years in ASC revenue cycle management. In her current position, she leads the management team that oversees day-to-day operations, working with clients and Serbin Medical Billing staff to ensure the best possible reimbursement outcomes. She also provides reporting and trending for Serbin Medical Billing's clients, as well as providing education on payer issues and accounts receivables.
Gillon has managed revenue for multiple specialties and sites, including ASCs, large multi-specialty practices with primary and specialty care, hospital, nursing home, radiology, physical therapy, sleep labs, and laboratory services.
