Caryl Serbin Contributes Column on ASC Patient Collections

Caryl Serbin, RN, BSN, LHRM, President and Founder of Serbin Medical Billing, wrote a column for Becker's ASC Review providing tips on patient collections in ASCs.

Topics covered include the following:

  • Financial counseling

  • Consistent messaging between ASC and practice

  • Estimates

  • Payment options, including payment plans

  • Statements

As Caryl notes, "As the payor trend toward increasing deductibles, co-pays and co-insurance continues, greater pressure is on ASCs to collect what have become large dollar amounts from the patient. Failure to capture this higher patient balances could turn a profitable procedure into one that loses money for the center.”
